Louise Smiley
These photos were taken by, Louise Smiley, Allie Jewers (age 14), Mitchell Jewers (12), Anna Jewers(10) and Jillian Jewers (6). They were taken in Port Dufferin, Nova Scotia, a village on the Eastern Shore.
The first picture of the house is our neighbour’s, “Hartling House” built in 1874.
The plaque on the house that says, “Registered Heritage Property Halifax Co. Municipality 1874,” is on the “Hartling House.”
The picture of the church is the “St. James Anglican Church” of Smiley’s Point Road, Port Dufferin. (Smiley’s point was often called in the early years Scotch Point.) (The church is over 150 years old.)
3 of the pictures are from a wharf down Smiley’s Point road, and 1 is a lobster fisherman and his boat.
The pictures of the house on the hill, is Edgar and Mary Smiley’s house in Port Dufferin, which is over 100 years old.
The wharf across the river is Carl Westhaver’s wharf, in Port Dufferin.
The picture of the chairs is from Louise Smiley’s house in Port Dufferin. (Originally from Mary Smiley and Edgar Smiley’s house.)
The house down the end of a driveway is The “Jewers’s House.” It was originally a “Hartling House” also. It was built in 1878.
The pew on the step of The “Jewers House” is form the “St. James Presbyterian Church”, of Port Dufferin, which was about 100 years old when it was torn down.
